Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Production of magistral formulations. Usage of Pharmacopoea Europea, solutions, powders, capsules, macerata, infusa, decocta, dispersions, emulsions, suppositories, vaginal globuli, eye drops, calculation of isoosmotic concentration, sterilisation, ointments, gels, pastes, homöopathic preparations such as globuli and dilutions.
Assessment and permitted materials
During the practical course, three aspects are being evaluated: preparation (oral exams, Block 1 - 4 ), practical performance (preparing all required products in satisfying quality, Block 1 - 4), calculations (written exams, Block 1 - 4). There is a practical exam at the end of the course (Block 6, Abschlussrezeptur, duration: 3 hours).
In addition, the general performance of the students can be evaluated at any given point and students are expected to be able to explain what they are doing and why they are doing it during the practical work. Not responding to the teaching personnels' instructions will affect grades accordingly, as will continued late arrival for the course.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The basic requirement for a positive grade is the capability to analyse magistral formulae based on acquired knowledge, correct them if necessary, produce them in a state of the art manner, select an appropriate packaging and labelling, and calculate the price - all in a reasonable time frame.
The assessment of each student's performance is based on preparation (Platzreferat, oral exams), practical skills (preparation of all products during the course in satisfying quality) and theoretical skills (calculations, written exams). Block 1 to 4 are assigned 15 points each for the above aspects. Block 5 is awarded with up to 2 points. Block 6 is a practical test which is assigned 20 points.
Grades are given according to the achieved points with 49 - 57 Punkte "Genügend", 58 - 66 Punkte "Befriedigend", 67 - 75 Punkte "Gut", 76 - 82 Punkte "Sehr gut".
In addition, each Block of sections 1 - 4 and 6 has to be evaluated in a positive manner with no less than 8 points to obtain a positive grade.

Examination topics
Will be discussed in the lecture "Magistrale Arznemittelherstellung - M3" and is available via Moodle Praktikum M3. Knowledge of basic working procedures when producing magistral formulae (including knowldge about deployed ingredients and potential problems) is key for the oral tests. Practical performance when doing caculations relevant to the production of magistral formulae is key for the written examinations. The final exam will require all of these skills combined.
