Aims, contents and method of the course

Registration via U:Space!
The course is held in English language, and it offers the participants a good chance to hold discussions in standard scientific English, thus acquiring some exposure to the technical terms and definitions. The course endows an introduction to the crucial notions and approaches in analytical chemistry with focus on LC/MS (Liquid chromatography/Mass spectrometry). The focus is on analytical tools needed/used by Pharmaceutical sciences students.

The aims of the course are:

• Understand fundamental concepts in analytical chemistry
• Evaluate experimental error, precision and accuracy
• Understand sample preparation for LC/MS analysis
• Understand basic mass spectral interpretation
• Understand quantification principles

The course is meant for student enrolled in one of the followings:

• Masterstudium Pharmazie
• Drug Discovery and Development (Master)

Assessment and permitted materials

Homework exercises: 30 points
Performance in Lab: 40 points
Final exam: 30 points

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

• Minimum points: 60 (min. 15 points in exercises, min. 15 points in final exam and min. 20 points in lab performance)
• Maximum points: 100

Grading:

• 60-70 points : 4
• 70-80 points : 3
• 80-90 points : 2
• 90-100 points : 1

• Perform a successful quantification and mass spectral interpretation in the practical lab part.
