Aims, contents and method of the course

The course is given in English. Following topics will be highlighted during the course:
- Bacterial cells and chromosomes
- DNA -> RNA -> protein: the basics
- Bacterial genes and mutations
- Bacterial transposons
- Exchange of genetic information in bacteria
- Bacterial gene cloning vectors
- New methods for recombinant DNA assembly and genome engineering
- Molecular analysis of genes and genomes by Next Generation Sequencing
- Bioinformatics: basic tools
- Metabolic engineering principles
- Synthetic biology principles
- Synthetic regulatory circuits in bacteria and their applications

Assessment and permitted materials

Exam (multiple choice) on-site (written examination).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements: Knowledge of biochemistry and microbiology basic courses.
The minimum requirements to pass the course is getting 60% of the points in the exam.

The content of the exam is going to be based on the topics studied during the course. The information will be found in the handouts provided in Moodle. However, important information could be mentioned only during the course.
