Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The objectives of this course are to:
(1) to help students to develop their academic writing skills
(2) promote culture-specific knowledge in an interdisciplinary fashion and raise students’ awareness of the complex relations between culture and communication;
(3) help students improve their oral and discussion skills, and presentation/moderation techniques

Assessment and permitted materials

individual term paper (70%), oral assignment/presentation (15%), participation in class (15%) - this means you cannot pass this class without submitting your term paper until the deadline stipulated in class

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance is mandatory (two absences are allowed).
Plagiarism is unacceptable.
An advanced level of both oral and written English is required.

Pass grade: 60%
Grading scale: 100-90% = 1 (Sehr gut), 89-80% = 2 (Gut), 79-70% = 3 (Befriedigend), 69-60% = 4 (Genügend), 59-0% = 5 (Nicht genügend)

Reading list

Reading material (e.g. journal articles) will be provided in class and on the Moodle platform. There will be a reading list but students will also be required to conduct their own research.
