Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Based on the contents of Basic Interpreting Competence, important theoretical considerations and quality criteria will be reiterated. Various preliminary exercises will help promote basic skills.
Interpreting situations typical in various settings will be analysed and practised, emphasis being on important aspects of conference terminology.
We will focus on interpreting from E into G.

Assessment and permitted materials

Presence in class is required, active participation and the handing in of assignments are vital for positive final results. All performances are marked and part of continuous assessment.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students are to understand and master the basics of simultaneous interpreting. Prerequisite: German and English: level C2

Examination topics

Preliminary exercises as required. Students will be asked to work with videos chosen and interpreted according to certain criteria (role, context, setting, target audience). Various interpreting strategies will be devised and practiced. Students will learn practicing on their own and will develop skills with the material introduced in class.
