Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Detailed introduction to US culture including popular culture. First popular culture will be defined and then each week a different aspect of US popular culture will be looked at and discussed in detail: laws, politics, religion, music, fashion, diet/fitness, business ethics, education, media and film etc. Some aspects of British, Australian and South African culture will be introduced to compare with that of the United States
Assessment and permitted materials
Final exam at the end of the semester.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
A solid understanding of the specificities of American popular culture and comparison with other anglo-saxon cultures
Examination topics
Lecture with discussion.
