Goals, content, and methods
Goals:
Students...
• can apply subject-specific teaching concepts for planning, implementing, and reflecting on athletic techniques suitable for school sports.
• should be able to plan, implement and reflect on differentiated forms of games and exercises adapted to age and ability for developing running, jumping and throwing skills.
• have tested and reflected on learning and training processes using selected athletics disciplines as examples: high jump, long jump and hurdling.
• deal with safety aspects and suitable forms of organization.
• recognize mistakes and their causes when performing basic athletics skills and know strategies for correcting mistakes.
• should have tested and reflected on learning and training processes as well as concepts of social teaching and learning using selected athletics disciplines as examples.
• be able to describe athletics training processes and techniques (technical language) with the help of literature and critically evaluate and apply technical aids (wearables, apps).
• be able to adapt to unexpected situations (e.g., COVID-19, poor sports equipment, no outdoor area, etc.) and react accordingly.
• should be able to incorporate educational concerns (diversity, gender reflexivity, inclusion, etc.).
• can analyze movement structures and techniques of selected disciplines from a biomechanical perspective.
• Use of wearables, apps, digital aids
Methods:
• Frontal teaching (example lessons, model lessons)
• Theoretical input and practical implementation followed by reflection
• Team and individual work on topics covered in the course
• Technical advice on improving demonstration skills and technical language
• Error correction according to pedagogical principles
• Use of digital tools (Moodle, Zoom, etc.) to support teaching
The focus is on enjoyment and interest in implementing athletics teaching content in school!

Assessment and permitted materials

Type of performance assessment and permitted aids
1) Theory exam
2) Specific warm-up as a teaching performance and writing a course protocol
3) Practical performance assessment (high jump, long jump, hurdle race)
4) Assignment on biomechanics, computer science
5) Participation in or assistance with a competition

All performance assessments for students must be completed by April 30 at the latest for courses with continuous assessment in the winter semester and by September 30 at the latest for courses with continuous assessment in the summer semester. Students who have not withdrawn from the respective course must be assessed. In the event of a negative assessment, a commission examination is not permitted and the course must be repeated. Legal source: Statutes of the University of Vienna §10 (4, 5, 6).

Please note that if fraudulent performance is detected (e.g., cheating, plagiarism, use of unauthorized aids, falsification, ghostwriting, etc.), the entire PI-LV will be considered fraudulent and will count as an attempt. (Entry in U:SPACE: X = not assessed)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
1. Classroom attendance: 75% attendance required (with excused absences)
2. A maximum of one partial performance may receive a negative assessment. However, this requires serious commitment and practice!
Partial assessments:

1) Theory exam (10-20 points = 20%)
2) Teaching performance and report (10-25 points = 25%)
3) Practical assessment: high jump or long jump and hurdle race (10-30 points, 30%)
4) Assignments on biomechanics/computer science (8-15 points, 15%)
5) Participation or assistance in a competition (10 points, 10%)
6) Additional points (max. 8)

Detailed breakdown of partial performance:
1) Theory exam on teaching concepts and basic athletics knowledge (technical terminology, rules, biomechanics, methodology, safety concepts). 10-12 open questions! 10-20 points

2) Teaching presentation: warm-up on a specific, randomly assigned topic (if practical training is not available, lesson plan) plus minutes of the entire lesson.
Teaching performance (content/topic 5 points, competence 5 points, sequence/structure 5 points, instruction/performance/time 5 points) 20 points, writing a lesson report (5 points). 10-25 points

3) Practical performance assessment in the long jump or high jump (20 points), technique assessment in hurdling (10 points). Compensation possible via the 800m run! 10-30 points

Technique assessment in hurdling (2 points each: narrow swing leg, ball running, 3-step rhythm, arm work, trailing leg) 10 points

4.) Assignments on sports informatics/biomechanics topics:
Task on apps/wearables, biomechanics, alternative equipment, computer science

5.) Participation or assistance in an athletics stadium event (no road running events), e.g., school sports, academic championships, children's competitions, etc. (Proof must be no more than 2 years old!)

6.) Additional points for attendance (0 absences = 5 points, 1 absence = 3 points) = 3-5 points, active participation 3 extra points

2. 89-80 points
3. 79-70 points
4. 69-60 points
5. <60 points
