Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Research workshops are a specific format within the doctoral studies program that serve the analysis and interpretation of empirical material. The focus is on joint work with diverse data, gathered by the participants in the course of their research projects (interviews, observations, archival and visual material, etc). The central aim of the workshop is the development of first theoretical ideas out of the analysis and interpretation of concrete empirical material within the group. On the one hand, this should allow for a stable way to interpretation and on the other hand for a consistent combination of methods. This is especially important because compared to other forms of empirical research in the social sciences, ethnography appears as a relatively unstructured style of research and theorising, which that often leaves students confused. Therefore, in each unit we will discuss empirical material and open questions of the participants.
Participants should have passed the FÖP and already gathered material for their project.
