Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This colloquium aims to bring PhD students who are addressing in their theses the political economy of labor, the displaced and refugee and migrant industries particularly in cities. On the bases of case studies from different parts of the world, it seeks to cover varying forms of violence, as well as financialization of livelihoods in urban extarctivism. Students who work on refugee and migration industries, urban transformations and violence and temporary work arrangements in urban contexts are welcome. The colloquium is open to advanced PhD students who have already conducted their fieldwork and are writing their thesis; whose topics fall at the intersection of critical urban and migration/refugee studies, forced migration, various forms of extractivism and labor regimes. The participating students are expected to present a chapter of their thesis or a paper targeting a journal publication based on their thesis in class and discuss a presenter’s paper and/or chapter.
