Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This interdisciplinary seminar addresses the central question of how learning can be studied from different research perspectives, using various theoretical foundations, and employing a range of methods of data collection and analysis. It will examine different forms of learning, including linguistic, literary, and cultural learning, relating to different learning contexts and groups of learners. The doctoral candidates will have the opportunity to present their own dissertation projects in this context, exchange ideas, and further develop their work.
Aims:
(1) Students can present their projects in various formats tailored to specific target groups, focusing on selected aspects.
(2) Students can discuss and reflect on conceptual and research-methodological questions related to their projects in an interdisciplinary manner.
(3) Students engage with different research traditions in the field of linguistic, literary, and cultural learning and teaching. Students can embed their dissertation topics in an interdisciplinary context.

Assessment and permitted materials

The doctoral candidates will work on individual chapters or sections of their dissertation during the seminar. They will actively contribute to the design of the seminar sessions by independently planning and leading a session in a small group, with guidance from the course instructors. They will present their dissertation project as a poster presentation (plus pitch) and contribute to the creation of a glossary on the topic of “researching learning.”

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The requirements for successfully completing the seminar are as follows:
• 40% learning by teaching: students design and conduct a session in the seminar (with lesson planning)
• 30% chapter or section from their own dissertation + two peer review feedback for two colleagues.
• 20% poster presentation (with pitch) on their own dissertation
• 10% wiki entries for a glossary on the topic "researching learning."

Grades:
• 100-90: Sehr gut (very good)
• 91-80: Gut (good)
• 81-70: Befriedigend (satisfactory)
• 71-60: Genügend (pass)
• 59-0: Nicht Genügend (fail)
