Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

PLEASE NOTE: This dissertation seminar is specifically conceived to help participants prepare for their FÖP (Public Presentation of the Doctoral Research Proposal). It supports participants in writing their exposés and preparing their presentations.
Students from all areas of philosophical research are welcome, who are in the process of preparing for their FÖP.

The first session is for getting to know each other and taking stock of the dissertation projects. I will plan the following sessions accordingly.

The sessions take place every two weeks, but they are long enough to allow varied work: each session will alternate between phases of writing, giving and receiving feedback, and presenting (with breaks).

The working language will be English, but of course you are welcome to write your texts and/or present your contents in German.

Assessment and permitted materials

Performance will be assessed based on:
1) Active participation in the work in each session (attendance is mandatory).
2) Timely submission of assignments: a “checkpoint” is planned every two weeks for submission of partial texts and/or slides on Moodle.
3) Submission of the exposé and presentation slides for the FÖP by February 15, 2026.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The final mark will be based on:
1) Quality of work within the sessions: 30%
2) Quality of partial results: 30%
3) Quality of the final result: 40%
