Due to COVID-19 the Ph.D. seminar will take place in the following form:

1) Those who have a presentation in the seminar are called to send their text one week before the presentation per email to jonas.osswald@univie.ac.at and arno.boehler@univie.ac.at. Jonas will upload to text for the seminar members on moodle. Everybody should read the uploaded text before the presentation takes place.

2) Instead of a live meeting we will have a weekly videoconference on mondays, 18:30-20:00 where the students can present their text and we can discuss them virtually in the video-group meeting.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The focus of the seminar lies on the presentation of your Ph.D. works, to discuss your texts with the group. Thereby we will train both, your rhetorical and your argumentative skills. If you are writing a Ph.D. sholarship proposal, a FÖP exposé or an article for a presentation at a conference, you are also free to present such texts for a group discussion.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular attendance of the doctoral seminar. Oral and written presentation of your works or presentation of a text, relevant for your thesis.
Elearning: The criteria vor the evauluation of your participation in this Ph.D. seminar remain the same. Instead of you physical presence you are called to accomplish the criteria via Zoom-Meetings (Oral presentation, presence and engagment in the seminar, sending a text via Email beforehand)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Overall score: Presence and engagment in the seminar (30 %), oral presentation (35%), written text (35%).
You need > 50 % of the overall score to pass the seminar.
In case you can argueably not attend the seminar (up to 2 times / semester) you have to inform Arno Böhler per email at the earliest.

Examination topics

Interpretation and discussusion of your Ph.D. work. Handout (1-2 pages) and the study of the texts provided on Moodle is obligatory for all participatns of the seminar.
Please send your written handouts at least three days prior to your presentation to arno.boehler@univie.ac.at and jonas.osswald@univie.ac.at

Reading list

The texts of your oral presentations and the handouts have to be send to all participants of the Ph.D. seminar at least 3 days prior to your presentation. Jonas Oßwald will make them available on Moodle together with the literature, you are providing.
