Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Students will learn essential theory required to understand and work with electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) data, including crystal symmetry, vectors in sample and crystal coordinates, rotations, orientations and misorientations. Furthermore they will become familiar with the typical maps and plots used to display crystallographic orientation data, as well as the orientation distribution function (ODF). These concepts will first be presented in lectures, followed by practical exercises with an actual EBSD dataset, using the Matlab toolbox MTEX.
Assessment and permitted materials
Online moodle quiz and submission of annotated MTEX script written in the practical exercise.
