Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will become familiar with medieval theological literature in the context of the history of ecclesiastical institutions among the South and West Slavs by engaging with the following topics:
The hierarchy of genres in medieval Slavic written culture (after N. I. Tolstoy)
The emergence of Old Church Slavonic literature in Central Europe and ecclesiastical institutions in Moravia, Pannonia, and Bohemia in the 9th–11th centuries; the (Old) Church Slavonic liturgy according to the Roman and Byzantine rites
The concept of corpus: the earliest Church Slavonic corpora and their associated ecclesiastical institutions — “Corpus Methodii,” “Corpus Clementis,” and its development and revision in the Slavic South in the 10th–11th centuries; Old East Bulgarian corpora
The contents and source base of the earliest Central European and South Slavic corpora
Centers of Church Slavonic written cultures in the 11th–14th centuries and the corpora created there: Bulgaria, Serbia, Athos
Church and theological literature in Croatian culture: the (Old) Church Slavonic heritage and its development
Church and theological literature in the Slavic South during the Reformation, the Catholic Reform, and the Counter-Reformation
Slavic-language theological literature in Old Polish and Old Czech cultures from the 12th to the 16th centuries

Assessment and permitted materials

Schriftliche Präsenzprüfung; alle Hilfsmittel sind erlaubt, mit Ausnahme von KI-gestützten Werkzeugen.
Direkte Zitate sind nicht zulässig; der Fließtext ist eigenständig zu formulieren und muss das Verständnis der Prüfungsfrage belegen.
Der erste Prüfungstermin findet in der letzten Lehrveranstaltungseinheit statt. Weitere Termine werden zu Beginn, zur Mitte und am Ende des Wintersemesters 2025/26 angeboten; sie werden auf der Institutswebsite bekannt gegeben.
Die verbindliche Anmeldung zur Prüfung erfolgt über u:space.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Bei der Prüfung müssen Studierende fünf offene Fragen beantworten, eine richtige Antwort zählt 20 %. Somit gilt 20% als Ungenügend, 40% als Genügend, 60% als Befriedigend, 80% als Gut, 100% als Sehr gut. Der Gesamtumfang aller Antworten soll ca. 1 Seite (A4) umfassen.

Examination topics

Der Prüfungsstoff ist der Inhalt der Vorlesungen bzw. der Präsentationen. Die Präsentationen werden auf Moodle zugänglich.
