Aims, contents and method of the course

Subtitle: Gender Narratives

In order to prepare participants for writing their first individual term paper, we will repeat various methods of literary analysis and apply them to canonical texts of Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin and Serbian literatures. These include narratology and structuralism, psychoanalytic text readings, concepts from postcolonial and gender studies etc. We will work together on pieces of early and newer literature, taking into account epical, lyrical and dramatic texts.
This semester we will focus on narratives of gender. After an introduction to this topic the students give group presentations, applying the methods revised together to selected texts. With the help of their supervisor every student develops his/her own research question and hands in a seminary paper on the same topic.
Teaching language is German. Depending on the language level of the participants, primary sources will be read in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian or bilingually.
