Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The bachelor seminar will introduce into memory research (Nora, Warburg, Halbwachs, J.+A. Assmann, Lachmann, Erll) in order to explore the question of what feeds cultural memory, with a focus on the South Slavic region. What function do narratives fulfill in this context, and which memory cultures and topographies in the South Slavic past and present specifically underpin these? Based on the theoretical foundations developed together, students have the opportunity to choose topics of their own interest, which they will address and critically analyze in their bachelor's thesis.

The goal of the bachelor's seminar is to prepare for their bachelor's thesis in literary and cultural studies.
Based on the secondary literature readings guided by the seminar, students will develop a research question and structure for their bachelor's thesis over the course of the semester, which they will then write independently by March 1, 2026.
