Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

When schools understand the educational, social, emotional and psychological impact of trauma and adapt their approach accordingly, they can become safe, supportive environments. In these, students can build positive relationships with adults and peers. They learn to understand their emotions, focus and develop confidence to learn successfully. Schools can make trauma-informed approaches an integral part of their pedagogical orientation and practice. Among other things, the course deals with characteristics of the trauma-informed school, the process towards a trauma-informed school and trauma-informed teaching. Both the learning processes of students and those of teachers along their professionalization continuum are taken into consideration.

Assessment and permitted materials

The use of AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT) to generate texts is only permitted if this is expressly requested by the course instructor (e.g. for individual assignments or tasks).

Student assessment is based on:
- Self reflective assignment (Critical Incidents)
- Flipped Classroom assignments
- Portfolio and final reflection

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance is mandatory for the course (digital presence during synchronous sessions is required). Absences will only be excused in justified cases, such as illness (with a medical certificate), scheduling conflicts with examinations, mandatory participation in an excursion, caregiving responsibilities, or similar situations (only with official confirmation).

Student performance will be assessed according to a point system consisting of active participation, attendance and assignments (total 100 points).

1 (very good) 100 - 90 points
2 (good) 89 - 76 points
3 (satisfactory) 75 - 61 points
4 (sufficient) 60 - 50 points
5 (fail) >50 points

Following assignments are required and must be submitted in time to pass the course:

- Portfolio and final reflection
