The importance of plants in the cultural history of mankind is enormous: from food, stimulatnts, raw materials for clothing, foods and housing, industrial products, drugs and horticulture to botanical motives and symbols in lnguage, folklore, religion, and art. All this is reflectedin the museum collections of vienna and will be made accessible to students of the natural, humane and social sciences.
