Development of new instruments, both for terrestrial and
for space observatories has led to a tremendous boost of high energy
astrophysics. This lecture focuses on the physical processes near
astronomical objects such as black holes or active galactic nuclei.
Topics include
cosmic rays, interaction between matter and radiation, X-rays and
gamma rays, bremsstrahlung, synchrotron radiation, accretion onto compact objects.
