Assessment and permitted materials
Oral examination consisting of three parts (20 minutes in total):
- In the first part, you are required to place a text of your own choice in the larger context of theological discussions in the Old Testament.
Students of a field of study that requires Hebrew must also translate some verses of the selected text from the Biblia Hebraica in this text.
When registering for the examination, please name three (clearly different) texts (of about 10 verses each) that you are preparing in more detail for this part of the examination; in the examination you will then translate a few verses from one of these.
- Second part: factual questions on the lecture.
- Third part: Presentation of your own understanding of "Theology of the OT".Dates:
Wednesday, 6 July 2022, 2-5 pm.
Wednesday, 21 September 2022, 14-16 hrs.
Monday, 17 October 2022, 3-5 pm.
(further dates by arrangement, latest by February 2023).Please register for the exam via email at elisabeth.oberleitner@univie.ac.at at least one week before the desired exam date (indicating which three texts you are preparing in more detail).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Assessment criteria:
- First part of the examination: How well can you describe the theological issues the selected text addresses and the wider context in which it is situated?
- Second part of the examination: How accurately can you answer questions on OT theology? Do you know the main features of the lecture material?
- Third part of the examination: How reflected and consistent is your understanding? How well do you distinguish yourself from other positions? Weighting:
- The three parts of the examination each count for 33%.
- The exam is only considered passed if all three parts are sufficient.
