Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment will be by written examination at the end of the course (as usual in Austria, 4 chances to take the exam). Basic readings will be provided for each week of the course via Moodle. They are part of what you have to learn (and see next window).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Rules for the 3rd and 4th opportunities (15.05 & 19.06.2020) to take the exam (modified from those valid for 24.04.2020).For parts 1 (map) and 2 (ten terms), the exam will be timed (30 minutes on the exam date), questions via Moodle and your answers via Moodle (under Assignment 1). That is, go to Moodle before 11:30, and the box Assignment 1 will be open at 11:30 (and close at 12:00). Recall that both parts are eliminatory. While reviewing for part 2, remember to locate the terms in time (approximate is fine, but do not get centuries wrong). You cannot collaborate or cheat. This part of the exam (unlike parts 3 and 4) is "closed books", meaning you cannot look at your notes, books, photocopies, the web, friends, your tatoos or the Mind of God (She is anyway busy with the Coronavirus).Part 3 and part 4 are take-home. You will get the questions on the day of the exam. You will have to upload your typed answers within a week via Moodle (file format mandatory), respectively under Assignment 3 & Assignment 4. This is an honor-based exam (and your answers will go through a check for plagiarism). You can use the course Moodle site, your notes, the readings, the lectures, the links here provided. Nothing more (so for example not the Wikipedia or Google, or anything available on the web). You cannot collaborate with other students (or anyone else). The instructions of the university are clear: Cheating will be punished with a X on your transcript (Zeugnis). As per instructions of the Rektorat, we reserve the right (as the University allows) to interview students on their written exam before we give a grade, or an X.
Please be aware that essays will go through a plagiarism detection program.The first section is a simple map test, for 0 or 5 points. You have to pass this to pass the exam.
The second section of the exam (bearing on the readings, 10 simple questions of fact) will be eliminatory (you have to reach 11 points out of 20). It is worth 0-20 points (0-2 points times ten).
The third section of the exam involves 2 short essays -- you have the choice of 2 out of 3 essay questions, each question bearing on one of the four sub-ensembles, for 0-20 points each (so 0-40)
The fourth and last section involves a comparative question, worth 45 points
All this for a total of 110 points (sic) out of 100.
