Subject of the exam are the first four chapters in the textbook (including new words and phrases and the grammar discussed in these chapters) as well as the Arabic alphabet and basic orthographic rules. The lecture will discuss inflection of verbs and nouns, basic rules for Arabic syntaxis and practical examples and exercises will be given. The exam will be similar to the exercises and examples presented in the lecture.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam at the end of the term (further exam sessions will take place middle of March, beginning of May, middle of June 2021). Duration of the exam is 90 minutes. Kindly note that collaboration or copying with/from colleagues is not allowed. Materials to be used during the exam will be announced before. Please keep in mind that these exam settings might be subject to change due to the COVID-19 regulations (i.e. exams might be undertaken digitally, either in written or oral form - or a combination of both). These changes will be announced in time.
Attention: Change in exam settings/12th of January 2021: Because of the COVID-19 related situation the exam will take place online. Kindly refer for further information and instruction to the learning platform Moodle.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students have to write the exam independently and without help from third parties. They have 90 minutes to complete written tasks related to the Arabic alphabet, basic grammar rules and conversational texts. More details regarding the exam are to be found in Moodle. Students who have at least 50 per cent of the tasks successfully completed will pass the exam.
Attention change 12th January 2021: Since the exam will be organized in digital format, students will have three days of time to answer the exam questions and to upload their answers (and not 90 minutes as initially planned).
