Aims, contents and method of the course

Mains goals:
The lecture series is intended to impart the following knowledge and to provide insight into its reasons:
- Strong hierarchical structures tend to elude control
- Educational institutions for young people are particularly prone to sexual abuse
- The perpetrators are predominantly male.
- Clear distinctions between and naming of different sexual forms are necessary.
- School as a place of danger is a decisive learning field for preventing sexual abuse
- Methods of educating adults institutionally dealing with young people within the Catholic Church
- Besides empirical, institutional and pedagogical questions, abuse also poses theological questions about God, who is supposed to be a partisan in favor of oppressed and destroyed people.

Contents:
- Sexual abuse in church and non-church educational institutions and its reasons
- Relationship between abuse and male domination
- Responsibility of church leadership in the face of the abuse crisis
- Pope Francis and his view on the question of the sexual abuse of minors
- The Church crisis as crisis of God
- Differentiation between homosexuality and paedosexuality
- Focus on school as a place of danger and safety
- Centre For Child Protection – an ecclesiastical institution for the protection of minors
- Issues of abuse in the context of priest education
- Prevention of abuse and violence in the Archdiocese of Vienna

Method:
Lecture, approx. 60 minutes, as well as moderated discussion

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral examination; 15 minutes; two independent question or subject areas.

DUE TO THE MEASURES OF THE COVID19 CRISISIS, ORAL EXAMINATIONS WILL BE DIGITALLY PROCESSED THROUGH THE PLATFORM https://meet.jit.si/ ACCORDING TO THE EXAMINATION DATES THAT ARE ALREADY ADVERTISED. THE REGISTRATION PROCEDURE FOR THE EXAM REMAINS THE SAME. THIS EXAMINATION MODE IS VALID AS LONG AS THE PANDEMIA MEASURES REMAIN MANDATORY. (March 30th, 2020)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The oral exam consists of at least two independent questions or subject areas. A positive assessment of the examination is achieved when the broad outlines of the subject areas have been covered and each part of the examination has been passed. - The examination performance is assessed as "sehr gut / very good" if the knowledge of the examination material clearly exceeds the average expected level of knowledge and if own, well based insights are brought in.
