Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this course, selected documents on the political, social, economic and cultural history of Greece in the 2nd and 1st century BC will be read and analysed. Greek and Latin texts, which belong to different genre, by authors such as Polybius, Livy, Cicero, Strabo or Appian, will be considered. The course should enable students to deepen and to practice their critical questioning of literary texts in an historical perspective.
Assessment and permitted materials
Regular and active attendance (25%); preparation of the seances through the reading of the texts and the relating literature (25%); presentation (35%); Essay (15%).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Objectives of the course are (1) to develop a critical approach of the ancient literary sources and (2) to be able to carry a methodical analysis of these sources.
Examination topics
Reading of the texts and of the relating literature at disposal on the Moddle platform, presentation, plenary discussion.
