Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, we go on a two-day field trip to the Carinthian Slovenian region. This is a practical extension to the courses on language policy and minority studies. On site, we will visit bilingual organizations, discuss with members of the bilingual community, explore the linguistic landscape and conduct small researches in the field. On the second day of the trip, we will visit Eisenkappel/Železna Kapla and the Peršmanhof museum.

As the course will be taught in German, a basic level of knowledge of German is indispensable.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation on the field trip, written documentation of the researches.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The purpose of this field trip is to empirically validate theoretical knowledge that has been acquired in seminars and lectures as well as to apply ethographic and other methods of Applied Linguistics.

Examination topics

The participants propose a research question and discuss it, as well as the used method, on the basis of the empirical findings in written form.
