Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar loosely follows the M2a lecture 'Philosophy of Science and Educational Research Methods' and serves to deepen and continue the topics and questions raised in this lecture.

Based on further literature, historical case studies and current controversies, we will discuss epistemological and scientific questions together.

The main objective is to irritate unquestioned habits of thought and to cultivate a critical attitude towards one's own and other people's claims to knowledge and truth.

Assessment and permitted materials

The final grade is made up of an essay (70%) and active participation in the seminar (30%).
The primary language of instruction is English. The assignments can be done in German as well as in English.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Compliance with compulsory attendance (max. 1 unexcused absences) and positive grading of the final essay.
The language of instruction is English. Therefore good knowledge of English is required. Except for two texts, the compulsory reading is in English. Your English does not have to be perfect, I will translate if necessary. If you do not read German, please let me know so I can provide you with additional help for the two reading assignments in German.

Examination topics
