Aufgabe der Lehrveranstaltung ist nicht nur die Aufdeckung dieser Mängel, sondern die Reziprozität von Stadt und städtischem Verhalten der Bewohner zu beschreiben. Wie die Entwicklungen der Städte zeigten, war die Integration soziologischen Wissens in die Stadtplanung keine Erfolgsgeschichte. Die berüchtigte "Unwirtlichkeit der Städte", wie sie Mitscherlich beklagt hatte, blieb ebenso erhalten, wie die Idee der "Gartenstadtbewegung" seit Mumford weiterhin eine Illusion blieb und doch scheint das Wachstum der Städte eine Erfolgsgeschichte bis heute zu bezeugen. Es sollen damit die städtischen "Prägungen" der Bewohner untersucht werden
