Aims, contents and method of the course
Mathematical language and way of thinking; notations for sums, products, and Indices; methods of proof (induction, direct, indirect); fundamentals of propositional logic; naive set theory (union, intersection); equivalence relations; maps (injective, surjective, bijective); group, ring, field; sets of numbers (natural, integer, rational); residue classes; Euclidean algorithm; divisibility; prime factorization.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Thorough digestion of the course topics which are fundamental for the entire studies.
Examination topics
This is in principle a classical lecture course where various basic notions of mathematics are explored. Further, the mathematical way of thinking is explained with the help of many selected examples.
