Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this (project) seminar students have a frame for working out a subject in "Applied mathematics", e.g. in (partial) differential equations: modelling, analysis, numerical methods & simulations.

Topics related to
* (multi scale) modelling,
* (asymptotic) analysis.
* numerical analysis / methods,
* computational aspects
* practical simulations
will be offered.

Within certain constraints, topics freely chosen by students can be pursued.

Possible topics:
* Mathematics in (quantum) physics , materials, magnetism
* Computational Fluid Dynamics, Geophysical flows
* Mathematics in engineering, biology, medicine, social sciences, economy, finance, etc.;

in particular climate/weather models, pandemic models, models in micromagnetism.

* (systems of) ordinary or partial differential equations

At least two of the following aspects should be covered: modeling, analysis, numerical methods, computer simulations.

Each student develops a selected topic for an oral presentation and a written report, under the guidance of one (or two) of the professors but otherwise independently.

Assessment and permitted materials

"Classroom presentation" live or zoom (25+5 minutes)
and a concise written report.
