Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims:
Clear comprehension of the theory of the electromagnetic field as a relativistic field theory and its applications to physical problems. Ability to solve simple theoretical problems in electrodynamics and special relativity

Content:
Basics of special relativity, Maxwell's theory of electromagnetism as relativistic field theory, electrostatics, magnetostatics, time-dependent electromagnetic fields, electrodynamics in continuous media, quantization of the electromagnetic field

Method:
Ex-cathedra teaching

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam (90 minutes), no supporting material admitted

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimal requirements:
At least 30 points (out of 60)

Gradings:
less than 30 points = grade 5
at least 30, but less than 39 points = grade 4
at least 39, but less than 48 points = grade 3
at least 48, but less than 54 points = grade 2
at least 54 points = grade 1
