Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Exercise classes (PUE) are an essential part of the course. Attendance to exercise classes is STRONGLY recommended.
By registering for the PUE, participation is required. Independent deregistration from the PUE is possible until 22.03.2024 at 23:59. Without exception, all students registered after this deadline can participate in the PUE and will be graded according to the assessment criteria of the PUE. The grade of the PUE is NOT included in the grade of the module examination. The proof of performance required for the module (VO + PUE) is provided by completing the module examination.
Weekly exercise sheets will be posted on the Moodle page of the course. (There will be only one Moodle page for both the VO and the PUE.) In the PUE classes, the solutions to these exercises will be presented (possibly by students) and discussed in detail by the teaching assistant.

Assessment and permitted materials

Two tests in the form of take-home exams will take place during the semester and will be graded. The final grade for the PUE will be determined by the outcome of these tests. Handing in both tests is a requirement for a positive grade. Students might be asked to present (parts of) their solution to the test exercises on the blackboard. These tests represent a very valuable opportunity for student self-assessment.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The final grade for the PUE will be determined by the outcome of the two take-home tests.

Examination topics

Exercises are meant to make the student apply ideas and methods discussed in the lecture notes.

Reading list

Lecture notes will be self-contained. Further readings will be suggested in class.
