Aims, contents and method of the course
During this lab course, two detailed experiments in the field of Solid State Physics will be conducted using modern research equipment. These examples will cover the synthesis of selected solids with reduced dimensionality, such as graphene, nanotubes, and thin films, their characterization with microscopic (scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy) and spectroscopic methods (Raman scattering, angle-resolved photoemission). Further, computer-based experiments (molecular dynamics) are planned within the lab course. A successful participation in the seminar low-dimensional solids (preferably during the same semester) is expected as a prerequisite.
Assessment and permitted materials
Preparation, Execution of the experiment, Protocol.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Both students of a group have to be present and have to contribute to the execution of the experiments. On the basis of the protocol ist must be clearly visible that the basic physical principles of the experiment were understood. The experimental data must be analyzed and interpreted correctly.
