Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Wave-particle dualism: concept of the wave function and description of quantum states, double-slit experiment, photo-electric effect, Compton effect, uncertainty relation and complementarity, randomness and chaos; physical-philosophical interpretation of quantum physics: Copenhagen interpretation, many worlds theory, decoherence; quantum information: Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradoxon, Bell's inequality, entanglement, quantum teleportation, quantum computer, quantum systems in particle physics: strange mesons; neutron inferometry; quantum physical view in science fiction and other disciplines (i.e. complementary medicine) and parallels in non-scientific areas.

Assessment and permitted materials

Talk on a chosen subject (article), writing a paper on that subject

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To make non-physicists familiar with how fantastically the principles and mathematics of modern quantum physics works in the description of the universe.

Examination topics

Methods of modern quantum physics; talks of the participants and experts, as well as visits of labs
