Aims, contents and method of the course
The lecture addresses students who specialise on environmental physics as well as everyone who is interested in the subject of renewable energy supply. Students will learn the pre-conditions, principles and challenges - technical, economic and political which are associated with widespread substitution of fossil fuel by a distinct technique to harvest solar energy. The current way of energy supply to cover human needs is compared with the solar energy source. The example of photovoltaic energy conversion illustrates what need for action will be necessary. We will explain what solutions, beginning with the physical concepts, continuing with technical realisation and ending in the integration of electricity distribution nets exist at presence and are suggested for the future.
Assessment and permitted materials
Oral examination
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students shall be able to apply the elaborated knowledge towards developing and critiquing a solar energy technology perspective.
