Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Students know the distribution, measurement and analysis of the most important hydrogeological parameters, e.g. rainfall, discharge, groundwater recharge. They know and can apply the equations for groundwater flow and transport in 3D space (Laplace, Poisson). They are familiar with analytical and numerical methods to solve flow and transport problems. They know how to process, analyse and interpret pumping test data and derive transmissivity and storage coefficient. They are able to build a simplified numerical 3D groundwater model and understand boundary conditions, numerical discretization, calibration and validation of groundwater flow models and can solve easy flow problems themselves. Further, the students will have an introduction in the concepts of environmental geophysics.
Assessment and permitted materials
The examination of the courses is based on three individual evaluations. The contribution of each part to the final grade of the course is given in brackets. Examinations will not be repeated (PI) since no individual exam is mandatory to pass the module.
1) Exercises (40 %)
70% presence at the exercise is mandatory.
2) Written exam (25 %)
Questions regarding all mentioned topics on hydrogeology. Date: 14.06.2023, 8:15 - 10:15.
3) Modeling course (35 %).
In-classroom teaching. Since the teaching and learning content of each course day is based on precious one, for the positive completion of the modeling course 100% of presence at the course is mandatory. The modeling course takes place June 26 to June 30, full day.
