Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The New Testament holds a central place in Orthodox worship and is foundational in Orthodox theology and the ecumenical movement. The course focuses on the books of the New Testament and how they have been interpreted throughout history and how they are interpreted in contemporary Orthodox theology and ecumenical dialogue.

The students are expected to study the required literature on their own and voluntarily participate in lectures given by the teacher.

After finishing the course, the student will:

- be able to describe the content and characteristics of the books of the New Testament;

- be able to explain and understand the exegetical methods that have been used throughout history to interpret the New Testament;

- be able to reflect on the role of biblical authority and the interpretation of the New Testament in contemporary Orthodox theology and ecumenical dialogue.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The students will be graded on a written test and paper that can be submitted in English or German. The students may consult the literature and lecture notes while writing the test and paper.

Mandatary reading of literature. Optional participation in lecture. Written test and essay in English or German.

1 (sehr gut) -> 100-89 points
2 (gut) -> 88-76 points
3 (befriedigend) -> 75-63 points
4 (genügend) -> 62-50 points
5 (nicht genügend) -> 49-0 points

Prüfungsstoff

To pass the course, the students must demonstrate that they are familiar with the content of the New Testament and methods of New Testament exegesis as well as be able to reflect on the role of Biblical authority and New Testament exegesis in contemporary Orthodox theology and ecumenical dialogue.
