Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Animism is an ancient belief system that does not comprise of a singular religious tradition but serves as a category for different traditions and is practiced in varied forms across the world. The objective of this course is to provide an overview of the basic concepts of animism, to critique its colonial construct, to examine the various theories of neo-animism in depth and to understand the significance of animism in the contemporary world.
After the successful completion of the course the students will have:
• Gained insight into the historical development of animism.
• Critique its colonial and modern construct
• Gained detailed knowledge of various theories of neo-animism
• An understanding of the importance of animism in human affairs.
Methods
Interactive lectures and discussion. Students would benefit the most by being prepared for the class and actively participating in class discussion. Discussions will be prompted to help students think critically about the subject that they are learning
