Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course aims to bolster participants’ proficiency in both written and spoken legal English, particularly in real-world professional settings. A primary focus will be on mastering the accurate, concise, and effective use of legal vocabulary, especially when conveying legal concepts and information to colleagues or clients.
This course serves as preparatory training for legal work conducted in English, particularly in the domain of corporate law. It aims to build competence and confidence in the four core language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
A significant portion of the course is devoted to improving participants’ oral communication skills. Participants will learn to discuss complex legal matters in English with clarity and confidence, thereby sharpening their speaking abilities. A strong focus will be placed on enhancing comprehension of legal English vocabulary, covering areas such as contract law, company law, employment law, the law of secured transactions, the civil procedure, debt enforcement, among others.
The course employs a highly participatory format, encouraging active engagement in discussions. A range of modern and interactive teaching tools will be utilized to ensure an engaging and effective learning experience. Emphasis will be on the practical application of the authentic legal language and the improvement of participants’ productive skills, achieved through conversations on legal topics and role plays that mirror tasks that legal practitioners encounter daily.
Though the course does provide foundational legal knowledge, its primary focus remains on developing linguistic skills within a legal context; it is primarily a language course.
