Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

General: The competition will take place: 11.07. - 15.07.2025.

ATTENTION: The official application deadline for participants for the competition is already closed. However, interested students can still apply for the course, participate in it, and learn the basics of business-related negotiation and mediation. As part of the team, they also prepare the competition case, have the opportunity to write a seminar paper, and receive the full ECTS; however, participation in the competition in July is no longer possible.

The CDRC is under the auspices of the International Bar Association (IBA), the Vienna International Arbitral Center (VIAC) and the European Law Student's Association Austria (ELSA). In view of the increasing importance of alternative dispute resolution methods in practice, the CDRC aims to establish itself as an internationally recognized platform for students and practitioners. In contrast to other student competitions (moot courts), the CDRC is open not only to law students but also to business students in particular who wish to demonstrate their talent in the field of negotiation and dispute resolution. For more information see http://www.cdrcvienna.org/.

In the course, students will learn the basics of mediation and negotiation. Every week, we negotiate new cases that relate to commercial disputes. Two teams negotiate against each other. Each team consists of a client (CEO, founder, etc.) and a lawyer. The negotiation is led by a mediator. During the course, students learn various negotiation techniques and the principles of mediation and practice presenting and negotiating confidently in English.

Prerequisites for participation in the CDRC Mediation and Negotiation Competition course:

- Good knowledge of English
- Commitment, team spirit, and willingness to attend additional training sessions in the weeks leading up to the competition
- Desirable: Completion of courses in the mediation elective basket (Wahlfachkorb)
- Doctoral and Erasmus students are also welcome to participate

Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, September 24th, 2024 via email to

[teresa.sihler@univie.ac.at](mailto:teresa.sihler@univie.ac.at)

and should include the following documents:

- CV (in English or German)
- Motivation Letter (in English)

Please note that the additional enrollment via u:space is mandatory.

Depending on the number of registrations, there may be a short hearing via Zoom before the start of the course.
