Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Content

The ICC - International Chamber of Commerce (https://iccwbo.org/about-us/who-we-are/) was founded in 1919 and is today the worldwide largest business organizations as well as the world´s leading arbitration institution. Each year it organzies the ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition (https://iccwbo.org/dispute-resolution-services/professional-development/international-commercial-mediation-competition/), the world´s largest moot-court exclusively devoted to international commercial mediation. For 7 days (06.-12.2.2020) student teams representing 66 different universities gather in Paris to complete various mock mediation sessions with the objective to resolve international business disputes through mediation, pursuant to the ICC Mediation Rules (https://iccwbo.org/publication/arbitration-rules-and-mediation-rules/). On the sidelines of around 150 mock mediation sessions, training programs and numerous social events will take place.

The University of Vienna will send a Team of 2 - 4 students to participate in this year´s Mediation Competition in Paris. Amongst all applicants the participants will be chosen on terms of their academic achievements, motivational letter and proficiency of the teaching language. Erasmus students are welcome to apply, preference will be given to participants of the Mediation Elective (Wahlfachkorb).
Prerequisites for application

- completion of the class "Mediation for Lawyers" (at latest during this coming Semester WS 2019/20)
- completion of the class "Introduction to Negotation" (at latest during this coming WS 2019/20)
- high proficiency in the English language (competition level)
- completion of civil law coursework (MP Bürgerliches Recht) is welcomed

Application process

Applications my be submitted until Saturday 05.10.2019 via E-Mail to nicol.schneider@univie.ac.at and marlies.soyka@univie.ac.at and shall include the following documents:

- CV (in English or German)
- motivational letter (in English)
- transcript of records
- optional: video or audio recording of 1 or 2 minutes in which the applicant explains his/her opinion on a mediation/business negotiation related topic (in order to assess English proficiency) - Topic-suggestions: "Mediation vs Arbitration"; "Harvard Program on Negotation"; "Rosenberg"; "Negotiation vs Manipulation"; "Personal experiences with Moot-Courts or similar group projects"

Professional and personal development of the students under the guidance of renowned practitioners.

Prüfungsstoff

The students are enabled to increase their knowledge of mediation and different negotiation techniques and to get a practical insight into the mediation process.
