Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The focus of this course will be on the discussion of central issues of contemporary international law on the basis of short case studies. (The case studies will be made available on the elearning platform beforehand.) Active participation by students is required.

The following topics will be covered:
- the sources of international law
- states and intergovernmental organizations
- human and minority rights
- the prohibition of the use of force and non-intervention in internal affairs
- state responsibility

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

1. Written Examination on 25 January 2024. There will be a written examination worth 70% of the final course mark.
2. Class participation. This will include demonstrated preparation for class and participation in discussions and is worth 30% of the final course mark.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

This class provides for the opportunity to discuss selected issues of major importance in contemporary international law (law of treaties, state responsibility, prohibition of the use of force, human rights).

Prüfungsstoff

Selected issues of contemporary international law will be taught on the basis of short case studies which are made available to the students on the e-learning platform beforehand. Active class participation is required.
