Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The aim of the course is the preparation of a student team of the University of Vienna for participation in the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court 2021. The topics of this international competition are public international law and space law.The World Finals competition takes place within the framework of the IISL’s annual Colloquium, which is a contained event in the International Astronautical Congress held on a different continent each year. Three acting judges of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will be in the jury.Regional pre-selections take place in four world regions: Europe, North Amerika, Africa and Asia. The European Rounds are organised by the European Centre for Space Law (ECSL). They will be held in a location that will be disclosed in October (in April/May 2021).During the winter semester, the written memorials of claimant and respondent will be prepared. The summer semester will be dedicated to the preparation and training of the oral pleadings. Assessment based on the written submissions for the competition and the performance of the students during the preparation for and the European Rounds of the Moot Court Competition.
The written submission may be submitted as 'Diplomandenseminararbeit' upon fulfilling the conditions by the Dean's Office.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
In lieu with previous years of the competition, grades will depend on both the final submission as well as the assessment of the research and drafting efforts made be the students.
Prüfungsstoff
The topics include general public international law with a focus on the law of treaties, the sources of international law and state responsibility. Furthermore, international space law as contained in the five United Nations treaties on outer space, with a varying focus, depending on this year's moot court problem.
