- Absolvierte Wahlfächer in englischer Sprache von Vorteil

- Coaching bei der Vorbereitung mündlicher Plädoyers in englischer Sprache

Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The aim of the course is the preparation of a team of students to represent the University of Vienna at the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court 2023. This international competition deals with a fictitious case in the area of public international law and space law.
The World Finals will take place at the annual International Astronautical Congress (IAC), where three acting judges of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will be in the jury. In 2023, the IAC will be in Baku (Azerbaijan).
Regional pre-selections take place in five world regions: Europe, North Amerika, South America, Africa and Asia. The European Rounds are annually organised by the European Centre for Space Law (ECSL) in cooperation with a European university. In 2023, they will take place from 17 to 21 April 2023 at the University of Jaén (Spain).
During the winter semester, written memorials for the claimant and for the respondent will be prepared. The summer semester will be dedicated to the preparation and training of oral pleadings. The language of the competition and the language of instruction of the course are English.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Assessment is based on the written submissions for the competition and the performance of the students during the preparation for and at the European Rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court.
The written submission may be submitted as 'Diplomandenseminararbeit' upon fulfilling the conditions by the Dean's Office.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Grades will be based on both the final submission and the assessment of research and drafting efforts made be the students.

Prüfungsstoff

The subject matters examined depend to a large extent on the subject matters addressed in the Moot Court case. They generally come from general public international law and have a focus on international space law as contained in the five United Nations treaties on outer space. Questions on the law of treaties, sources of international law, international liability, and state responsibility appear in almost every case.
