Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The purpose of the course is to provide the students with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of EU Law by way of case studies. In addition, the course is an opportunity for students to meet Mr Wollmann, who will take exams in EU Law as of autumn 2022.
The course is divided into six blocks of three hours each, with an interval of 15 minutes. In each block, four cases shall be discussed. The selected cases will primarily be judgements of the CJEU or the GC, in some instances also from national courts of the EU Member States. The topic of the cases will be both questions of institutional as well as substantial EU Law.
Each case will be presented by two students, with the first student focusing on the facts of the case and the other presenter on legal aspects. The presentations shall have a duration of not more than 10 minutes each (i.e. 20 minutes in total per case) and may (but need not) be supported by slides. Following the students' presentations, Mr Wollmann will discuss the case and its EU Law implications with the class.
The cases will be allocated to the students in each block for the next block, if possible on a voluntary basis. Thus, students will have one or two weeks to prepare their presentations. The first four cases will be allocated in the preparatory meeting on 18 March 2022.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Mr Wollmann will grade the performance of the students in their presentations. In addition, students who actively participate in the discussion of other cases in the class will receive a plus, thus improving their final grade.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Students are required to be enrolled on U:SPACE.
Participation in the course necessitates a basic knowledge of EU Law. Further, the students who have assumed responsibility to present a case need to be well acquainted with the respective matter. In the discussion, they are asked to put the matter into the relevant EU Law context, and they should be able to answer questions concerning the matter at hand both from the tutor and the class.

Prüfungsstoff

In each block, Mr Wollmann will hand out a reading list helpful to prepare for the next class.
