Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This course will set out the ways in which EU law is enforced in judicial proceedings before the Court of Justice of the EU and its interplay with the national courts. In particular, the course shall deal with the various procedures before the Court of Justice (infringement, annulment, failure to act), the organisation and work of the Court, as well as their interplay with the national courts (the preliminary ruling procedure).This is an advanced course, which builds upon the course VO Introduction to European Law. Therefore, students are expected to have basic knowledge about the EU institutions, sources of EU law, as well as the interaction of EU and national laws.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
IREWI students will take a single oral exam, covering the 3 courses included in Module 5, 'European Union Law'. IREWI students will take the oral exam with one of the Professors of the Department of European, International, and Comparative Law, automatically assigned in alphabetical order.Erasmus/exchange students may take an oral exam at the end of the course. The exam will take place in the English language. The grade and the number of ECTS credits for the present course will appear on the certificate listing the courses taken by the student during his/her Erasmus/exchange period at the University of Vienna.
