Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The practical exercise is designed to enhance the understanding and deepen the knowledge gained in the lecture (VO) European and Global Legal History by discussing legal sources. The main goal is to help the participants to prepare for the final exam.
In accordance with the lecture, the practical exercise will cover a vast area of topics, epochs and problems: from the very beginning of law and society in ancient times over the Middle Ages to early modern and contemporary history. It includes lectures about enlightenment and absolutism; constitutionalization, authoritarianism, and totalitarianism in the 19th and 20th century; as well as instances of Globalization of law.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

-Regular participation in the course:
Participants may be absent two times. Please note that you will be automatically deregistered from the course if you are absent in the first session. If you cannot attend the first session, please send me an e-mail prior to the first class.
- Active participation in the course (10%)
On the day following each class, questions and sources will be posted on Moodle. All participants are kindly asked to prepare them for the next course session.
- Two written exams (90%)
Two written exams will be held during the exercise. Books, notes, and internet resources are not allowed during the exam.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

To determine the final grade, the average of the two exams will be calculated. In order to pass the exercise, the average of the two tests needs to be positive. If the average is between two grades, participants may obtain the higher grade by active participation in the exercise.
