030682 KU The United Nations and Criminal Justice (2009W)

Outline: The course provides an overview of the efforts of the United Nations’ work in crime prevention and criminal justice. It introduces the participants to the basic principles of international criminal law, relevant international conventions and standards and mechanisms facilitating international cooperation in criminal matters. Staff members of international organizations present recent developments in combating serious crimes and their work aiming at further developing international standards in the area. Students have the opportunity to give their presentations in the presence of UN experts and discuss with them current international justice issues.

The course counts for the specialization modules: International Relations (Recht der Internationalen Beziehungen); Criminal Justice (Strafjustiz und Kriminalwissenschaften)

Registration: In the first lesson on 19 October, 17:30-21:00.

Please note that the class will only be open to students who have passed their exam in criminal law; knowledge in international law is an asset.
