Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course aims at providing students with a basic understanding of the fundamental elements, aspects, and rules of international economic law with a focus on international trade law and the role of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Its basic principles will be described by reference to the respective articles in its trade agreements and case-law from the WTO dispute settlement system.
The relationship between the WTO and the EU common market (including free trade agreements such as the TCA or CETA) will also be covered.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Two exams in the final two sessions (students need to be present in the classroom during both)
– The first consists of right/wrong, Single and Multiple Choice, fill-in-the-blank questions, ... (no materials allowed)
– The second is a discussion of a hypothetical trade-related scenario (open book)
Active participation in class

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

– two exams in the final two sessions (36 each, 72 points in total), the first with Single, fill in the blank-, dropdown- & Multiple Choice- Questions (closed book), the second is a case study, i. e. a discussion of a hypothetical trade dispute (open book)
– active participation in class (8 points)
– two unexcused absences max

80 points overall

0-40: not sufficient (5)
41-50: sufficient (4)
51-60: average (3)
61-70: good (2)
71+: very good (1)
