Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This is a companion course to "Applied Microeconomics". The aim of the course is to help students master the material presented in the lecture with further examples and problem sets.

Due to the specifics of our curriculum, there are various types of students:
1. If you have not successfully completed either the KU or the UE Applied Microeconomics you will follow the course normally and should register. You will get graded based on completion of the homework assignments (see below for grading).
2. If you have successfully completed the KU Applied Microeconomics but have not completed the UE, you should register in the course and register in Moodle as a "non-KU student" (details in Moodle). This will allow you to complete the course without having to prepare homework exercises for a lecture that you are not currently taking. Instead, you will complete some empirical projects (see below for grading and Moodle for details).
3. If you have to take KU Applied Microeconomics but do not have to take this UE (either have completed it or is not part of your curriculum), you should ask to be registered in Moodle to have access to the materials but do not need to submit any assignments and of course you will not receive a grade.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

All tasks are marked for completion only. The lecturer may give partial credit for incomplete assignments. Assignments may be completed in groups (up to 4) but all members of the group should submit their own assignment.

For students of group 1 (see above):
- All assignments are complete: 1
- All but one assignment is complete: 2
- All but two assignments are complete: 4
- All but three or more assignments are complete: 5

For students who present the projects:
- All assignments are complete: 1
- All assignments but one are complete: 3
- All but two or more assignments are complete: 5

Assignments must be submitted through Moodle. Use of AI-based techniques is forbidden. All other materials are allowed.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

For students of group 2, there will be some assignments in which you will have to use basic empirical techniques to answer questions related to demand, cost minimization and adverse selection.
