Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this ‘Proseminar’, students will write and present an essay in the field of behavioral and experimental economics. In terms of content, we focus on applications relevant to the digital economy, voting and applied game theory. The first few classes serve as an introduction to the core elements of writing a scientific essay. Student will learn how to state a research question, review related studies and structure the essay. A reading list, which is handed out in the first session, offers different essay topics and is intended to guide students to important questions and literature in the field. Following the introduction and the choice of a topic, essay concepts will be presented in class, which allows to receive feedback from peers to further improve the essay. The aim of this seminar is to equip students with important writing and presentation skills which are useful for future assignments such as the Bachelor thesis.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Assessment: The assessment is based on the presentations, peer feedback and the written essay (grading details are given in first session). It is imperative to participate in the first session. Students who cannot (for a good reason) participate in the first session should send me an e-mail one week before the first session. Note that scientific writing classes are held in German but project work can be done in English. Note also that it is not possible to write a Bachelor’s thesis in this course.
